About

Art has been part of my DNA since before I had words for it

Ifeoma Jibunoh is a collector, curator and cultural advocate dedicated to contemporary African art and the stories that lie beneath the work. She grew up in the Didi Museum in Lagos, Nigeria's first privately owned art museum, founded in 1983 by her father Dr. Newton Jibunoh OON.

A board fellow of the Royal College of Art, Ifeoma brings together a rare combination of curatorial depth, institutional knowledge and cultural conviction. FYI Contemporary is where that lifelong relationship with art finds its fullest expression, a platform for the works, the artists and the conversations that matter.

FYI Journal

The stories beneath the work

Thought leadership from a lifetime inside African art. Essays, reflections and cultural criticism for those who want to understand why the work matters.

Sacred Spaces

Art has consumed people's lives for centuries. They just called it living.

From the churches of Pietrasanta to the piazzas of Florence, a meditation on what it means when art escapes the gallery and becomes the air we breathe.

On Mastery

What does mastery mean? I asked two of Nigeria's foremost artists.

In 2019 I co-curated Journey to Mastery at the Didi Museum. The conversations with Uche Edochie and Ayoola have stayed with me since. Here is what they said.

Collecting

Why I collect in multiples from the same artist

Collecting one work by an artist is an introduction. Collecting several is a commitment. On what it means to believe in a practice, not just a piece.
